The WSIB Poster is exactly that… a poster that needs to be displayed where the appropriate people can see it. In this case we are talking about any employees from any workplace that is covered by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB). For what it’s worth – this includes pretty much all workplaces in Ontario. It’s all about safety in the workplace and the obligations of both employers and employees, especially in the event of an accident.
Just to refresh, the WSIB is an independent trust agency here in Ontario that administers compensation and no-fault insurance for workplaces in the province. They are mandated by the province through the Ministry of Labour and have the weight of enforcement on their side. They have the ability to perform on-site audits of companies both from the standpoint of site inspections as well as a review of the company financials.
The title of the WSIB poster is called: “In Case of Injury or Illness at work”. It covers 4 points including: 1) Getting medical help 2) Documentation 3) Reporting to the WSIB and 4) Working together. The easiest way to familiarize yourself with the contents of the poster and the mandate of the WSIB is to go to their website and look around. You can access it at here.
A copy of the poster is mailed free to employers when they register. A copy can be obtained for free by calling 1-800-387-0750 during business hours. A smaller print version can be downloaded here.
Stay safe out there.
